Tiger Administration

Sunday March 23rdMiscellaneous Category

I just wanted to crank out a quick post to point any fellow Wordpress at a really nice plugin. If you don’t use it, or don’t have any interest in it, then don’t bother with the rest of this post :)

This morning while looking for a “comment approval” plugin for another site I’m setting up with some fellow techies (more to come on that later), I stumbled across a fantastic skin plugin for the administration site that comes with every Wordpress install. It’s called Tiger Administration, and it’s an absolute breath of fresh air.

This plugin makes the admin panel much nicer to look at. It’s a dream for those of us who are yet to have the balls to play with the Wordpress 2.5 beta on our production sites (FYI: 2.5 comes with a new admin panel), and who have been using wordpress with it’s *cough* awful *cough* default admin theme for a long time.

Check it out. The author has done a great job with the plugin, and you won’t regret using it. Enjoy!

For my blog, I’ve decided to give up on Wordpress and use Movable Type instead. The 2.5 preview just didn’t do it for me at all, and after lurking the wp-hackers group I’m not sure I like the direction the project is going - a lot of useful features and performance work is being ignored indefinitely and there seem to be a lot of security holes.

MT is a lot quicker (mainly because published pages are static html, though you have the option of making it dynamic), has one-click theme and plugin install (a godsend!) and the admin panel is quite nice. Imported my Wordpress blog entirely in just a few clicks.

As a backup my old Wordpress blog is still entirely intact just in case I want to go back, but currently I’ve got Apache setup to automatically redirect to the new one.

If you’re subscribed remember to change your RSS/Atom feed link!

Interesting. I have heard a lot of good stuff about MT, but I haven’t yet taken the plunge and had a look at it.

When you’ve used it for a while I’d be keen to hear a review of it :)

Thanks for the info, I had no idea you’d changed and was wondering why I hadn’t seen a post appear in my feeds for a while. Cheers mate.

I should have told you about this one… I trialled it out quite a while ago. Seemed pretty nice, even in the early release versions.

I changed back - I don’t think it was for any reason in particular… prob just cause I was more concerned with the front end than the back.
